It is such a magnificent thing to be able to see objects under a microscope. Just the "oohs" and "aahs" bring joy to my soul when my students are able to see objects up close. Being able to see three dimensional objects instead of only flat objects would make their thoughts about science better.
Our school is a very rural school, where the nearest fueling station is 15 miles away.
About 85% of our students eat free or reduced lunch. Our numbers are small, whereas other schools in our district are very large; therefore, we do not receive much funding for our classrooms. Our school is constantly struggling to receive extra funding that will supply our students’ needs. Our school was recently named “highly successful” by the state based on our achievement in our state assessment. It is important for me to continue to help my students grow in order to become better achievers. One of the keys to success is advancing my students in new technological materials in the science classroom. Every year our science department is finding new information and technology to incorporate with different activities for our students. New science materials allow my students to inquire about science, and enjoy it.
My Project
In my science lab, I am in need of six stereo microscopes where I can allow a smaller group of students to share observations during science activities. I currently have one advanced stereo microscope that is six years old. It is very difficult for my students to get a good observation of objects when there is not enough time for everyone to go around because of the amount of students that have to share one stereo microscope. These microscopes are expensive, but are a great investment to our students. The stereo microscopes allow students to see three-dimensional objects instead of flat objects that are placed under an ordinary microscope. The focus of the stereo microscopes is also more accurate and clear when placed under the scopes. I will be able to reuse these magnificent microscopes each year; therefore, it would not be a waste of money. Stereo microscopes are a great way to improve my students’ knowledge of science.
Both my school and I are dedicated in making a good foundation of science in our students where they can also use with other subject areas.
Donations and grants are greatly appreciated, and I can guarantee materials provided will not be misused. This funding is essential to our future students to allow them to have a better understanding of science and scientific materials; therefore, with utmost respect I am grateful for your consideration in funding our needs.
