Help me give my students important lab supplies, including 10 sets of small and large graduated cylinders, 4 beakers, a hot plate, heat-resistant gloves, and two fermentation experiment lab kits.
Seeing students excited about science has been the greatest gift since joining DonorsChoose.org. Your donations make hands-on learning and inclusion a reality in my classroom!
We are a rural, low-income school district surrounded by farmland, which many students live and work on.
Many of my students are tactile or kinesthetic learners who enjoy being able to get out of their desks, move around, work with their hands, experiment, and create things. I also have a unique group of learners with special needs who often require modified instruction to achieve success in our science class.
My Project
Hot water is so important in many science labs and our microwave is just not cutting it to heat up water to the proper temperatures in order to maintain it throughout an experiment! My students will use the hot plate and heat-resistant gloves to safely warm up water to specific temperatures during science labs. The beakers and graduated cylinders will allow my students to measure out their materials. My students are going to perform meaningful scientific investigations to expand their understanding of cellular respiration and fermentation using the kits from this project.
This project will provide my student scientists with basic science essentials such as beakers, graduated cylinders, a hot plate that can be used for many years to follow.
They will also be able to use the materials to investigate the effect of temperature on other cell processes, such as enzyme activity.
