This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
What was science like for you in school? Many of us learned through books and that was it, but my students learn best through hands on experiences.
I teach second grade in an urban Texas school.
The majority of my students come from single parent and/or low income households. My students are curious and excited about school. I try to make it as interesting as possible. Science is an academic area my school, as a whole, struggles with. As a second teacher, I am building my students academic foundation. We need more hands on science activities that encourage exploration and get the students excited about science.
My Project
This project includes six tubs that will enhance my students' learning. The tubs include the following topics: rocks and soil, weather, force and motion, matter, plants, and animals. I chose these tubs because they align with the my class curriculum. Each of these tubs will allow me to set up 4 to 6 hands on activities per topic.
As I stated before, my students learn best through hands on activities.
By funding this project, you are investing in the future of my students. Who knows, you may be helping create a spark that leads to love for science and even a future doctor, nurse or scientist.
