This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My after school robotics class is a place where students are working on STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math) skills. The students spend their time working on team building exercises, early/beginning coding, and problem solving skills needed to participate in a robotics challenge at the end of the year.

The students involved in this program are tenacious, creative, and eager to learn.

They are excited to learn about the various areas of STEAM. To address all areas in the after school program the students are starving for a literature piece to help with additional projects involving the "A" in STEAM. They are growing and learning with each day that passes. I want to introduce them to Science Fiction literature to help them relate what they are working on to engaging novels.

My Project

We are requesting 25 copies of The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. This is a middle grade book that will allow the various grades in the after school program to all participate. The book will engage them in a variety of ways and allow them to read a story about a robot and work on their robots.

For some of the students this will be their first science fiction novel.

The students will get to read about the great adventure the robot goes on as it is stuck in the wilderness. The content will allow for class discussions and be applicable to the robots they are building. It will allow for the class to come up with challenges for their own robot to face that will be similar to what the main character is going through.
