Science Fair Explorers Take Off!

My Project

We are a Title 1 Equity Focus Charter School in the Aurora Public School system. This year we have 40 high school students working diligently now to prepare research projects for the Denver area science fair. This is the first time our school has taken such a number to this event. As one student worked, she said, "You know what we need? REAL scientist lab coats! Then we could present our results, talk about our experiments, and explain our results looking and sounding like the real thing ... because we are."

In explaining potential costs versus rewards, our students support the idea of reusable lab coats that they can share with other students because we also teach financial responsibility in a cost-effective world.

Yes, they feel if they look the part of a working researcher, their work will be well received. Yes, they say they are "in it to win it" at the science fair. And yes, they already know that anything we recycle gets reused, protecting our planet and reducing overcrowded landfills. All these reasons are why we are supporting our students' request for lab coats.

At our school, we serve approximately 1,000 students in grades K-12 who come to us from all around the globe, working cooperatively, highly motivated to learn. Our students have over sixty different heritage languages from Pashto, Spanish, to Tajik; yet everybody is bound by the common mission to succeed in their education. We are preparing tomorrow's leaders in science today. Please help us support our high schoolers interested in biomedical and advanced science. They understand this is their time to work hard and shine at the science fair. To their credit, they are also willing to hand over their lab coats in order to help the next student along.
