Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Ever since we began looking through the microscopes, my students cannot get enough of science time! I teach 4th and 5th Grade math and science in an inner-city school. Our school has been neglected for some time, but with a wonderful new principal and staff, we are making great strides. We just need a few extra science materials that will make inquiry-based science lessons come alive.

My students do not get an opportunity to go beyond the neighborhood. So, it is up to me to bring new experiences and knowledge to them. Because many of my students read below grade level, I try to make most of our science lessons hands-on.

We would love several non-fiction books to help us build our knowledge of space, rocks and fossils. We would also like specimens in a clear block. This will allow us to observe bugs and seeds from front to back and they will last a long time. My teacher would like a book to help her learn more ways to teach us interesting science experiments. We would also love live animals in our room-frogs, brine shrimp, an ant farm and 2 millipedes. It is important for us to observe an animal's habitat and daily actions. It is also important to take responsibility for cleaning and feeding animals. With these materials our room will become a science haven!

Your help will make it possible for my students to enjoy science and be successful for many years to come! Thank you so much.
