Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher-librarian, I get to share my love of the written word, create a culturally sensitive, learner-centered environment and teach research and 21st-century skills all at the same time.

My students are bright, funny, hardworking kids who have so much to offer the world.

Our school celebrates the individual student in many ways. We have a strong community base - parents, staff and the Parent Teacher Organization are committed to the school and serving our students. Most of my students speak English and Spanish, and 81% of my students get free lunch at school.

My Project

Machines are used every day to make our lives easier. My students will learn to identify each simple machine, investigate close-up how they work and eventually construct their own simple machines. These lessons will bring science to life in the everyday world.

The materials that this project will provide are hands-on manipulatives so that students will participate in cooperative problem solving.

The simple machines labs allow students to explore how simple machines can be combined together to create many different products that can solve everyday problems. The contraptions set will allow students to be creative and create new products to solve problems that they see in their everyday lives.
