Our school's students have a wonderful curiosity that makes my job as the science teacher such a wonderful experience. With so many classes and only me to teach science, I need to find creative ways to bring engaging and instructional online science resources to all our teachers. Finding cultural bridges between science and the arts, allows me to better differentiate my instruction and lessons for all my students.
Our Title One, elementary school has a diverse population of students who all qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.
My science classes are comprised of General Education, English Language Learners and Special Education students from many different cultures, all with a variety of learning styles. They are exciting to watch in action and all love to try and discover. So many times I'm overwhelmed at their competence and determination to learn and achieve.
My Project
It is absolutely amazing that my autoharp interests so many of my science students. Hearing the autoharp for the first time, many are so curious about the strings and the strumming that they can do. What is wonderful is when they ask for more autoharp time and lessons - even the worse behaving students are touched when they can create music. Music is truly magic for children.
I'm requesting an Oscar Schmidt autoharp with gig bag, strings and a tuning hammer.
This autoharp will be used with my other autoharp to teach the science of music and also to start a small autoharp afterschool program. The autoharp is a wonderful instrument for children because of its size and ease of use. As the children get more proficient, we'll start tackling more complex strumming and plucking. I'll introduce them to the different styles of autoharp music and how different cultures use the autoharp in their music.
Your support of my science students is so greatly appreciated. This autoharp will bring the joy of music to hearts and fingers that are so ready to create music magic!
