My Students

Education in today's society has changed. We are no longer preparing students for specific jobs. Our goal now is to prepare our students for a constantly changing future. Access to technology is the key to this goal.

My school is a small country school in Oregon.

Our population is about 220 students. We are a very low income school and receive Title 1 funds. Many of my students are active in the 4H and FFA programs, and they compete at the county fair. I have a blended class of 34 energetic 3rd and 4th graders. Like many kids they love computers and thirst to learn more about using them.

My Project

Until recently, technology has been spotty at best at our school. Simple things that are often taken for granted in larger schools, such as reliable phone and Internet service were often unpredictable. August 2010 brought us the completion of a fiber optic line to our school. This was made possible through a technology grant and generous donations from the company that put in the line. This technological update is very exciting for our school and specifically my students. With reliable Internet and the netbook that I am asking for, I can begin to prepare my students for a future based on modern technology. With the netbook I will be able to teach my students how to use the Internet as a tool. We will be able to do research projects, build and maintain student webpages, and create presentations to show off their hard work to other classes over the Internet. I find that using technology like this in the classroom generates motivation and excitement for learning in my students.

By placing a donation toward this request you will not only be helping my students now, but be helping to build the foundation of which their educational house is built.

Students who are technologically savvy will be better prepared for the future. As my young students learn to use technology we will be paving the way for them to use it effectively in high school and beyond, thus making them better prepared for a technologically based future.
