Science and Technology Are the Future!

My students need to be able to see in live time when I am giving detailed instructions for certain projects, assignments and homework.

My Students

My students are all amazing. They are so respectful and I have a handful of kids each day who leave my room and say 'thanks Mrs. Taylor!'. I want to be able to provide them with an amazing science experience while I have them for 10 months. I teach at an urban school where more than 50% of the students receive free and reduced lunch. Being in a school system like this, there are many challenges that come along with a student body like ours. A lot of these students go home and take care of younger siblings.

Many students leave school and need to become an adult.

While I have them, I want them to have a full 6th grade experience. I want them to learn, but I want them to have fun doing it. If I can make science fun, think about how amazing our future will be with more students taking a science path as they go through their educational careers. These students are polite, respectful, kind, and so accepting of our hugely diverse school. I am proud of these students every single day!

My Project

As the years go by, more and more students are visual learners. They need to be able to see something in action to really understand how to do it. This year I want to take it to the next level. In order to be able to reach all students, a document camera would be an amazing addition to my classroom. This would allow me to project my hands and an assignment the students are working on, onto a screen and show them step by step what they need to do. Interactive notebooks are up and coming, and I would love to implement them this year.

Students today are very visual and hands on.

If I come across a student doing an excellent job, I can have that student go to the document camera and show the class how they got their answer. I think that students also teaching each other is a huge lesson in life. Take advice from others. They may be able to explain something better than me to their peers. I love class discussions, and I think having a tool like this in the classroom can lead to a lot of great talks.
