My Students

My students are thinkers, my students are learners, and my students have a great love for school but they do have challenges because they live in an inner city. My class consists of exceptional students, English language learners from around the globe, and traditional students. Most of my students' socioeconomic status is low poverty. A few of my students do not even have a permanent address, they move from house to house.

I teach at a creative arts school and I have never met such an amazing group of talented and artistic children.

One unique positive trait about my kids is that they do not let these life issues stop them. They have a love of learning and they work hard. Their present situation should not determine their future. Where they are from should not determine where they will go. I am determined to make sure my students have the best resources available to achieve all of the goals they set for themselves.

My Project

Teachers Pay Teachers has been a phenomenal tool for teachers across the country. I discovered a wonderful educator who created these marvelous interactive literacy centers. These literacy centers will help my students with reading comprehension, phonics (letter sounds) and becoming fluent readers.

Learning to read is difficult for some of my students and they do not find it enjoyable.

These literacy centers will make learning to read more enjoyable and fun. These centers include interactive activities and games that will help my students reach their reading goals. My students have to complete so many reading test during the year to track their progress; these activities will be a great stress relief in between all of these tests.

Also included in my request is an interactive science notebook and life cycle models. Currently we do not have a science curriculum and it is hard to get materials that align to our state standards. These science materials will greatly help mold my little scientist.
