My students need the circuit kit, magnifying glasses, goggles, magnet rings, and geodes to help enhance our science stations. They will use the brain flakes to explore, build and use their creativity.
I teach a wonderful group of 23 diverse students at a Title I school in Texas. They are creative and easy to engage in real world problem situations. They thrive when they are challenged to think outside of the box, and excel when they are able to connect their learning to things that actually matter in the "real world." They are very motivated and engaged in science and mathematical questions and problems. They work best and learn the most when they are working for a purpose that is meaningful to them. They love to collaborate with each other and are learning more each day by listening to, and discovering with their peers.
They enjoy taking their learning to different levels, through different means.
Student choice is big in my classroom. I would like to be able to provide them with more opportunities to use their problem solving skills.
My Project
I love for my teaching to be cross-curricular! The Circuit Discovery Kit and Magnet Rings will help promote science in with reading and writing time. Students will write about the scientific process as they use these items. What worked and what can you change for next time? The geodes will allow students to explore the outside world in our classroom. Breaking geodes is something I've done with past classes, and they absolutely love it! Students wear safety goggles for protection and then get to explore the geodes up close with magnifying glasses. We use balances to weigh and compare as well as rulers to measure the lengths; this integrates math and science. The art supplies will allow my students to make special keep sakes for their families. I'm anxious to see my students explore new ways of learning! These items will allow them to build real world connections, explore the unknown, and stay engaged through cross-curricular experiences. I love how these items will provide a multitude of learning avenues that some student's otherwise would not have been exposed to.
