This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year, I will continue to have the pleasure of teaching and assisting in building our gifted program. They are smart, funny, witty, and highly capable students who deserve every resource money can buy to help them succeed in education and in life. Most of the students in this local, small neighborhood school have been enrolled since Pre-K. I want their final years of elementary to be memorable.
Teaching science in elementary requires hands-on, visual models to enhance the material we learn in our textbooks and online.
Can you imagine learning about science, solely from a textbook, without bringing those concepts to life in the classroom? Making connections is what matters most to a students educational experience. It fosters life long learning and builds the imagination.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will help students create electric circuits, learn about the human body and launch their water bottle rockets.
During this critical time of elementary learning in both the classroom and online, I want all my 4th and 5th grade students prepared for their future education.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines, students can not share materials as they have in previous years, therefore we need more materials for lab stations as well as models to enhance learning of the human body.
By providing students hands-on models and materials to learn, the students will be able to engage in hands-on learning to gain more perspective of how the human body works with 3D models of the nasal and throat cavity, human skeleton, heart pumping model, ligaments in the knee and listening to the heart beat with the use of stethoscopes. Hands-on experiences leave more of a lasting, memorable effect rather than watching a video or looking at pictures in a book.
With these materials, they will also learn about sound energy with Tuning Forks, Light Energy with Prisms, and Aerodynamics by making and launching Water Bottle Rockets for STEAM/SECME with the use of the AquaPod launcher and the bicycle pump. In fourth and fifth grade, we also focus on building electric circuits. Just like your home, our light bulbs burn out, batteries die as wires go bad. So we need these items replaced, annually.
With your help, we can finish our school year with great memories and learning experiences to last a life time.
