My students need hands-on materials to transform their reading to real life applications. This includes a student microscope kit, a USB camera, lab coats, and other items.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are recent immigrants with limited or interrupted formal education (SLIFE). They have limited abilities in listening, reading, writing and speaking in both, Spanish and English. The students are an amazing and sweet group of students that will benefit from all of the materials that I am requesting.
These hardworking students need extra resources to enhance their learning experiences at an accelerated rate.
There is an immense sense of urgency. Many of the students range in ages from 14-21. Therefore, their time in the program may be limited. Many of our students are over-age and have not been to school.
We need to enhance their education because their time may be limited in this program. I want to provide the students with experiences they will remember so they will be life-long learners.
They are also missing years of schooling from their native countries.
My Project
Our focus in this program is enhancing their abilities in Native Language literacy so that they can gain mastery in their own language. The materials that are being requested will help engage the students into a deeper understanding of the materials and curriculum that needs to be covered. The purpose of this is to strengthen their language and academic deficiencies.
The students are currently doing science without the abilities of doing many different types of experiments.
Our students do not have their own science classroom nor sufficient materials to provide them with the best learning experience.
Next year, we plan on creating a Universal "science" lab for our students so we can have weekly hands-on experiences.
I cannot even begin to describe how having a lab will enhance their experiences in school. We plan on the kids doing experiments to better their understandings of Biology.
The students will need lab materials such as: lab coats, gloves, masks and glasses for safety and protection.
I am also requesting microscopes, slides and hands-on models for tactile connections to the curriculum.
The students will also need clipboards to analyze their work while standing/moving/observing. Also, the teachers are requesting technologies for up close views of the many topics we will be covering next year. Therefore, a microscope camera and overhead projector will be instrumental in projecting diagrams to the big screen for all to view.
