This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Science, Science Everywhere! Yet we forget to make it fun and engaging for our students. Science is passion! I see it in everything I teach. This summer I took STEM training to enhance other areas of study to include science. I found many connections and will integrate them into our lessons.

My students have a sincere desire to be great thinkers and learners.

I believe that it is up to us, as teachers to get them there. Our school has a low socio-economic population with a high number of second language speakers. Our students may struggle in life but they come to school with the high expectations that their teachers will help to set the tone for learning and give them challenging work so that may be able to venture out into the world and compete with the best from other reputable schools. We are a California school and we work hard to ensure that our students receive a high quality education.

My Project

The materials I ordered will help bring the science component of our study to life. I am a teacher that believes in teaching in the moment. An opportunity passed is an opportunity of time missed when an impact could have been made. In my Early Civilization class we do archaeological digs, study about fertile soil, talk about climate change during the Ice Age that allowed for Early Humans make their descent into North America. We talk about global warming, stratification of soil layers, types of fossils found in the rocks and soil and many other aspects of science. We also include the study of Pangea as an into for the Science class using google earth and other systems introduced through the STEM program. Why am I doing this in my class, because the opportunity to cover it may not be the focus in Science. My students will learn what made soil good for agriculture, why warming took place and how we identify the fossils we find. This is engagement that leads to careers choices in life.

My project is important to the development of my students spectrum of what is available under a discipline to choose from as they go into high school and college making those important career choices that will help impact our world's future.

We have a need and an obligation to provide our students with the knowledge needed for sustainability of our world as we know it. With the added technology to enhance our inquiries, my students are destined to be among those future scientists.
