My Students

My students are very playful. They love to organize a soccer game at lunchtime.

Through this daily game, many friendships have been made.

One particular student has brought his tattered soccer ball to school every day. Over the course of the year, this soccer ball has slowly fallen apart. If there was an odometer on this ball, it may have traveled across the country by now and be on its way back!

We get new students throughout the year. On any given school day, a new student may be joining us for the first time. And it has been this ball that has been our school ambassador. If a new student has found it difficult to participate or even figure out what is going on in a class, they immediately know what to do in the schoolyard with this tattered soccer ball.

My Project

After lunch in our schoolyard a scrimmage ensues. The topic of play is soccer. And it is played with gusto. To observe this loosely organized game is to witness a mass chase for a lone soccer ball. Students' sole aim is to maintain control of the ball for the maximum period of time one can before it is kicked away.

With two pop up goals and some soccer balls, this after lunch scrimmage could take on a new dynamic and more teamwork would ensue.
