Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school has an amazing group of students. My students are special education middle school students who perform to the best of their ability each day. That said, my students perform the best when their personal needs are met and their successes are celebrated. My students have jammed-packed schedules and high expectations in all learning environments throughout the day. Providing what they need with no questions asked is one small but important step toward them meeting their academic goals.
Meeting my middle schoolers' needs is more than needing supplies during the school year to keep them actively learning; they require health products and rewards to keep them motivated and secure in school.
Each school year brings its own needs. This year seemed to be the year that students were asking for pencils daily. In addition, students knew they could come to my room for supplies to meet their health needs, such as masks, cough drops, Kleenex, and band-aids. It would be helpful to have donations towards those materials so I can continue to supply them the following year.
Additionally, our students with learning impairments want to be and appreciate being acknowledged and celebrated for their growth. Next school year, I plan to send more notes home to parents/guardians celebrating their academic and citizenship successes.
