School Wide Kindness and Compassion Campaign Making Friendship Bracelets

My Project

The students at my elementary school are amazing! However, the majority come from economically disadvantaged homes. Many students are being raised in single parent homes where parents struggle to provide the basic needs for their children. In addition, many students struggle academically, and socially, as English is not their first language.

I want to encourage positive relationship skills and increase self awareness by kicking off a school wide kindness and compassion campaign.

I want to focus on relationships that help the students feel connected to others and identify the elements of good friendships. These are lifelong skills that will help them be successful throughout their time in school and as they transition to young adulthood. Feeling connected and supported by their peers increases the students ability to flourish in their academic endeavors, graduate from high school, and train for their professional careers.

With the help of six grade student leaders, I will present instruction in each classroom and have every student make two bracelets: A bracelet they can keep and a bracelet they can share. I need larger beads for my kindergarten through third grade, while my fourth through sixth grade students can either weave bracelets or use the smaller beads.
