Help me give my students their schools supplies to start off the 2020-2021 school year! School supplies are not expensive, but enough of them sure do add up to a lot.
My students live in the rural, volcanic side of Hawaii's "Big Island." The students come from a variety of backgrounds including but not limited to Native Hawaiian, Filipino, Hispanic, Asian, and Pacific Islander. Because of the isolation of our island, many have never traveled to a city, many have never left the island or the state of Hawaii. Parents and grandparents work in agriculture, ranching, fishing, the sciences, the tourism industry, education, food services, and more.
My students come to school for so much more than learning; it is a place they feel safe, loved, and cared for.
Our classroom is an inclusion classroom, which means we accommodate children with specialized learning plans, striving to never isolate kids into separate spaces. Although each child varies greatly in academics, they all love to be at school. They are so fun, and eager to see what each day will bring for them. I feel so blessed to be able to be a part of such a great group of kids!
My Project
My students come from a low socioeconomic area on the Big Island of Hawaii. For some families, it is a struggle to provide their students with the supplies needed for school. We can help them!
Equality will be promoted and enhanced in my classroom because all of my students will have the same school supplies.
I know my students will be so excited to walk into their classroom and have school supplies welcoming and waiting for them as they begin their new school year. This will be a great way to start their year off right, and at the same time lessen the financial burden for their families.
