Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a Title I school, our student population is impoverished. My students come from difficult backgrounds; however, they arrive each day, ready to learn and reach their potential. They are eager to learn new information and share it with the world. Our class has a motto: we always strive to do and be our very best!
Every year, I set high goals for my students.
I want them to become avid readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, artists, and explorers. Through inquiry and dialogue, I want them to become critical thinkers.
My ultimate goal is to create a classroom of students who love learning. I want my students to become independent learners who are not afraid to take learning risks; students who engage in experiential learning, and who persist in problem-solving. I want my students to learn to work collaboratively with their peers and to be creative.
Every day, our classroom is buzzing with students at work, challenging themselves and each other. My amazingly curious first graders are eager to learn each and every day!
My Project
Working in a low income community, you see how difficult it can be for parents to buy the basic supplies their child needs to enter school. Simple pencils and paper can be an added expense to a family. These materials will ensure that every child in my classroom has the materials they need. These materials will provide my student the tools needed to learn how to write their letters, words and eventually simple stories. It will provide my students with a sharpener, so that they always have a sharpened pencil at hand. This project will eliminate the burden on parents having to provide pencils and paper for homework as well.
