This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My special education classroom consists of resource students who are determined to learn and strive for success. They are interested in "typical" teenage interests such as Fortnite, Basketball, Instagram, Tik-Tok, and Takis. Oh, and for some reason, Peppa Pig.

These students come from different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.

As a class, the students face challenges with accessing the grade level curriculum due to its difficulty. These students require differentiated instruction and always put forth their best effort! Whether it's games like Kahoot or our Friday Community Circles, these students are present and deserve the opportunity to be successful.

My Project

This project is for basic school supplies within the classroom. Majority of these items such as pencils, erasers, and pens are so the students can have a back up if they happen to come to class unprepared. Not all students have the means to have all of their basic school supplies. Most of my students struggle with executive function - something many of us take for granted. To show up to class, maybe even on time, can be major success for them. If they happen to forget a pencil, they should not be punished or left out of learning, they should be given a pencil and be able to move forward.

I want my students to focus on learning as opposed to their supplies.

This project is to give them the means to do so.

Other materials, such as a document camera will be beneficial in my classroom as well. Many of my students have auditory or visual processing deficits. Utilizing a document camera will support my students as I can model the assignments for them.
