This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are warriors! Despite having learning disabilities and underlying behavioral disorders, they persevere through challenges to learn to the best of their abilities.

There are many things in my students' lives that are working against them in their school and home environments, both internal and external factors.

Many of my students come from low-income households, where they are unable to afford the supplies needed to have a successful school year. My students do not let these detriments hold them back in any way. They each have a spirit that has persevered through many hardships. Despite being very resourceful, my students deserve to have new and adequate school supplies after returning to school from COVID-19 pandemic.

My Project

Due to many stores, businesses, and restaurants closing due to COVID-19, I know that many of my students' parents will not have the means to purchase school supplies for their children next school year. As a special education teacher, I am constantly trying to anticipate the challenges and needs of my students to support them with the tools and aids they may need to be successful. This is what I am attempting to do now- alleviate the financial pressure off my students' parents for the coming school year. The items on my list will be used on a daily basis by my students in order to organize their learning materials and enrich their learning when we return to school. Many of my students struggle with organizational skills, I have created a system with binders and binder tabs in which students are able to effectively organize each subjects' papers and tools for all of their classes. My students also participate in many calm-down exercises involving art projects with which the crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue and paper will be of use. These items make my job as an educates and my kids' jobs as students easier in that we are wasting precious learning time searching for something that could have been found easily with the right organizational system. Furthermore, for some reason all of the red markers and crayons consistently disappear from my classroom... New arts and crafts supplies are needed in order for everyone to complete activities without fighting over the single red crayon.
