Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The 5th and 6th grade math students at my school are incredible. They are resilient and they are exceptional. They have been thrown a lot of curve balls in the past several years, with inconsistent teachers and therefore many gaps in their learning. Despite this, they come to school every day ready to learn. My 6th graders have benefited from having the same math teacher for the second year in a row. As their teacher, I have seen some incredible growth in these students. My 5th graders are in the zone now and are meeting my high expectations and are learning new things every day!
My students are learning and believe in themselves now and their smiles are priceless.
We still have a lot of ground to cover coming up for the rest of the year. We must conquer decimals, fractions and percents! We will learn about the metric and customary systems. Geometry and statistics are coming up in the spring. No matter what mathematical topic we are given, I know we will persevere and be successful because their mindset has changed and they believe in themselves!!
My Project
I would like to be able to provide my students with the necessary supplies to be able to meet daily objectives. We need paper and several types of writing implements. I'd love to be able to organize the room because organization leads to productivity. We don't have a working pencil sharpener and I would love to have one. It would reduce the time spent hand sharpening pencils before every class (and during sometimes).
The school supplies provided for myself and my students through this project will help us be successful in our mission to learn mathematics!
All of the items that I requested will make learning just a little more accessible. Many of my students' families are unable to provide supplies for their children to bring to school. Having these supplies provided from a donor will take the pressure off of having to provide them myself and off of the families of my students.
