My Students
I teach 18 kindergarten age students who love school! Most of my students come from low to middle-income homes, and with cuts to funding, there is not money in our budgets for anything outside of basic supplies. I strive to give them the loving, supportive environment that they deserve while they are in my care so they can have the best chance at growing, learning, loving, and just being a kid with no worries!
Kindergarten is such an important developmental period in children's lives, and developmentally appropriate practices of movement, play, and choice are often being swept under the rug with the increasing academic demands being placed on our students.
However, research actually supports that using these practices increases student learning, growth, and achievement! Therefore, it is important to me to give my ALL to my kinders' growing minds, no matter where they come from or how different they are: a place where they have the best chance at flourishing and developing into great learners and people!
My Project
The 2018-2019 school year is approaching quickly and our littles are in need of basic school supplies. Our kindergarten students use markers, pencils, scissors, and glue on a daily basis. In addition to those basic supplies our students also use glue dots, markers, page protectors, and laminating sheets for crafts as well as literacy and math learning stations. These items are used for both whole group and small group activities.
This project has been created in the hopes that our kindergarten students will get the supplies that they need and parents will not need to stress about covering the cost.
