Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

For the upcoming school year I will be teaching 20 fourth graders in a South Bronx public school. This will be a year of firsts for my students and I hope to make it a fun and memorable one for each of them. The majority of my students come from homes where the parents live paycheck to paycheck or are on public assistance. Because of this, many of them may not have school supplies until the middle or the end of September. Besides falling behind because they don’t have the necessary notebooks, pencils, or pens, these students also feel ashamed. To alleviate this feeling, I am requesting a variety of school supplies so that all of the students in my class will receive a “school supply starter pack.” Each student will receive two notebooks, pencils, erasers, folders, and a highlighter. Because this is the first year that they will be required to have a looseleaf binder, the packs of looseleaf paper will be used for those students who don’t have this resource. By giving these to every student, no individual student needs to feel singled out about not having the required supplies. With your support and generosity each of my students will start the fourth grade successfully.
