This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a 5th/6th grade bridged special education, multiple subjects class in New York. My classroom demographic is diverse. My students are aged 10-12. They have been diagnosed with autism, cognitive/developmental delays, sensory impairments, both visual and auditory.
I have a class of 8 boys this year.
All of my students receive free school lunch. 90% of my students are from broken homes. My scholars do not have access to technology at home. Most of them are below grade level in reading and require tremendous support academically.
My Project
Last year it broke my heart to see some of my students using one inch pencils. They tried to use the entire pencil because they weren't able to purchase new ones. The lack of supplies not only broke my heart but also my pocket. I had to purchase many supplies for my students because I couldn't see them go without basic supplies such as notebooks and pencils.
My students need dry erase markers, copy paper, card stock papers.
These basic supplies will allow my students to engage in daily activities. My students will be able to create projects with these supplies. They will be able to do the essentials, such as learning to write and read with these vital tools. The materials that I am requesting will enrich my classroom environment and encourage learning.
