This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in Title I school that has a new designation as STEM Magnet for our district. My students are mostly English Language Learners with the most predominant language Spanish. However, we have about 12 different languages across campus at any given time. I have the privilege of teaching science and math all day long! On any given week, I see approximately 100-200 students in our STEM lab for Science and Engineering lessons. All lessons are hands-on and utilize Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as the basis of advancing our students' English skills both academically and conversationally.

My Project

This school year will be very different! My Fifth graders are starting the 2020 school year in 100% distance learning. Each of my students will have a device at home in order to watch and participate in live instruction each day, however it is still essential that students continue to solve math problems, hand write assignments and take notes in an real time "offline" format.

Students need to have supplies in order to remain organized and engage in handwritten projects and solve math problems in a written format.

This year will definitely be challenging for students, families, and teachers, but I am hopeful that providing these supplies will help all those involved feel successful while we are in distance learning.
