My Students

I have the honor of shaping 23 brilliant minds! My students are predominantly African American and Latino. Our school is truly a special place for my students. It is a school where student voices, cultures, and backgrounds are validated. My students leave with a true sense of who they are!

My students are bright, charismatic, and bring a lot of personality to the classroom.

They are passionate about making a difference and are learning to stand up for what is right.

My Project

First grade is an important year for students! Full of learning and growing and building on the skills previously developed. In order for students to be set up for success there are tools they must be equipped with. Each student will have their own pencil pouch where they will be able to store their materials, like pencils and erasers. The crayons, glue, dry erase board markers and erasers will be communal supplies so students can use the materials in different areas in the room and have easy access to these materials during centers. This year students will need two different types of notebooks: one for writing and the other for word problems. These notebooks will help students exercise ownership over their work, will keep work organized and will help track student progress. The anchor chart paper will be used daily for a wide range of activities from building classroom norms to charting how we are feeling that day.

These materials will be used by my students on a daily basis.

Providing my students with the materials they need will allow them to practice skills of accountability and responsibility, while also setting them up for continued success. The materials that I am requesting will help keep my students organized and focused on learning. My students will not have to worry about not having supplies to get them through the day. They will also know that the supplies are readily available and easy to access when needed.
