My Students

Our school is a kindergarten through 5th grade, Title I elementary school in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle. We’re the third largest elementary school in Seattle Public Schools and about 60% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch! We have a diverse population of students (Asian 52%, Black 8%, Hispanic 9%, White 13%, Multi-Racial 10%) with multiple linguistic, cultural, and economic backgrounds --and that's part of what makes us so great! Our school celebrates this rich cultural diversity through classroom activities, dance, art and it has helped to make us a State School of Distinction.

Our Creed is "I know that our country was built by people of all races, and I know that people of all races keep our country great." Our students know that the way to get things done, is to work together!

My Project

I am amazed each year that our students remain so consistently creative. To help our students' ability to create while they learn, we need supplies that are considered luxuries by our school district. Crayons, paper, Ziplock bags, hand sanitizer, markers, glue, pencils are all necessary to make learning engaging, effective and fun, yet are hard to attain. Since most families cannot afford these basic supplies, many of our teachers will end up paying out of their own pockets to ensure their students in need are afforded every opportunity of their peers.

We are looking to lighten the load, both financially and effort-wise, for low-income families at the start of the 2019-2020 year.

We are attempting to collect necessary school supplies for families in need in order to minimize the burden placed upon students and start each new year on an even playing field. Please consider helping our students, their families, and the teachers at our school obtain the supplies needed to start the new school year off right. Thank you!
