School Supplies Build Foundation for Success in Pre-K

My Students

Do you remember coming to preschool as a young child and having fun while learning? Well our Pre-K students with special needs love coming to school! However, with the budget cut in NC Public Schools we are missing many of the essential materials needed to keep the students healthy and germ free.

My students are Pre-K/EC and their age ranges from 3-5.

They class is blended with children with different types of special needs (Autism, Developmental Delays, fine and gross motor delays, Speech Delay, and other Disorders). All of the students have some type of language and communication deficits. The students have difficulty understanding language and communicating their wants and needs. We use several augmentative communication devices, sign language to communicate, and picture symbols. The school is a Title 1 school with about 98% of the students are on free and reduced lunch. Most of the parents are single parents, which leaves little money to help with materials needed in the classroom.

My Project

The materials we are requesting for our classroom are very important to keep our young students with special needs healthy and safe. With the major budgets cuts in North Carolina Pubic schools it's becoming very difficult to keep the materials that we need in the classroom so it will be clean and safe from germs. The school system only provides limited supplies of gloves, paper towels, and soap to our class. We have about 95% of the students still in diapers. Most of these students come from low income or single parent homes and many of the parents cannot afford to send extra items( wipes, soap, ect...). Our class is only cleaned once a day which is not enough, so we have to clean throughout the day. We have to clean the changing table between children and the table for feeding. It is important for our classroom to stay as clean as possible so our young students with special needs stay as healthy as possible.

This donation to our project for baby wipes, Lysol wipes, paper towels, and hand soap will help our class feel healthy, clean, and free of germs.

When our young students with disabilities are healthy it allows them to come to school ready for learning and work on skills that they have delays in. Please help us meet the needs of the students by making sure we have these materials.
