This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Some of my English Language Learner (ELL) students will return to school to reconnect with friends, while others will be starting their educational journey in the United States for the very first time after arriving from their native countries. This transition can pose challenges for newcomers, so it's crucial to create a warm and inclusive classroom environment for their arrival. Providing essential supplies is important, particularly if it's their first experience in an American school setting and they may not have had the opportunity or means to acquire them beforehand, or if language barriers hindered their understanding of what was required.
Posters in the walls, highlighters, folders, copy paper, among others, will provide them with the materials they need to get off to a great start.
Having the classroom well decorated and stocked will make them feel welcomed and enthusiastic about their new school and the new language, and thus more engaged in the learning process.
