My Project
This is my first full year as a School Social Worker - last year I was on maternity leave for 3 months of it! Due to not being in the office for most of the year I truly did not know what I needed to best support my students. Over the summer I had custodians come into my office to make is more trauma informed and comfortable for students wanting to come and talk with me.
With this new space I have more room!
I want to create a space where students can open up and feel comfortable sharing what is going on with them at this moment. A part of my wishlist is fidgets - these will be used for when students are speaking with me and they need to fidget with something to help them stay relaxed. I also am requesting mental health posters. Since I am a School Social Worker - mental health is so important. It is going to be nice to have something that students can look at and read to take in information - more than me just speaking that stuff to them.
The laminator and label maker is to help me stay organized so my students do not come into a chaotic environment. A laminator can help keep my resources fresh for many uses so students for many years can enjoy them.
Some of the students I work with are at the highest risk of trauma or have endured trauma already. I want to make sure that school can be a safe place for them - where they can get all their needs met.
