Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students that I serve range from students without disabilities to students with moderate to severe disabilities. The school I work at is home to over one thousand students aged 11 to 13.
As a middle school school psychologist, my aim in my work is to help students achieve their own and their families goals by utilizing a strength based approach.
I also serve a school with specific programs for students with autism and students with emotional and behavioral disorders.
My Project
My students and teachers will benefit from my growth professionally as I continue to fine tune my skills in identifying the root of a child's difficulties in learning. The better I can become at identifying causes of learning difficulties, the better I can develop plans and consult with students, teachers, parents, and administrators about ways to bypass these obstacles so that time is used as efficiently as possible to develop young minds when children are at school. There are various assessments that can be used to facilitate this process of identification and problem solving, but this requires in depth knowledge of how to interpret and apply these assessments, which is another goal of my professional development.
