My students are predominantly from the inner city, and badly want to succeed. They work hard and have great attitudes. They are predominantly Hispanic, and many have backgrounds that make reading English difficult for them. These are kids who want to better themselves though. The year has barely started, so the kids haven't received much homework yet, but yesterday I had two separate groups of students approach me and ASK for homework. They said they didn't have the opportunity to learn their math skills very well last year, and they wanted to catch up! These are 7th graders...asking for more homework!
My Project
Right now our students have to copy all work from the eraser board by pencil, because we only have one printer/copier in the building. This will allow us to print information sheets for experiments, worksheets, notes, examples, data charts and more for the kids to use in class, to take home and to study from. We will also be able to copy handwritten information to share between groups. This particular printer uses inexpensive ink bottles to fill instead of expensive ink cartridges, so it will allow us to use the printer for years to come with very low expense to the teachers.
