My Students

First grade is such an exciting school year! So many things are happening: learning to read, turning thoughts and ideas into stories, exploring math, and so much more.

Unfortunately, many of my students do not come ready to conquer these tasks.

As a school surrounded by poverty and filled with drugs, my students are still learning basic skills when they get to me. Although many obstacles are thrown their way, my students show up each and every day ready to learn.

My Project

The supplies I am requesting will be put into action immediately! As a first grade teacher who follows the Guided Reading program, I will be ready to use my new table to maximize Guided Reading instruction. I can already see the students sitting up straight, spreading out, and digging into their books. The teacher desk and storage cart will provide me with a teacher work area separate from my Guided Reading area. As of right now, I have a large, cumbersome desk that takes up too much space. With a school merger taking place next year I will have even less space.

These supplies will provide my students with the best environment for Guided Reading instruction, and allow them to be in an organized classroom with space to explore and move.

By demonstrating organization and structure I am providing an examples of what it means to be prepared, well-ordered, and ready to succeed.
