My students need basic school supplies every year to do everyday assignments and projects. Having the supply holder will help students keep the necessary supplies organized and easily accessible for them.
My students are refugees, immigrants, homeless, foster youth--the poorest of the poor in our city. Our school is one of the lowest performing in all of the state and with a 50% graduation rate, we really our encouraging our students to pursue higher education. Advocacy is a program that allows us to provide extra support and information for our students to be more successful. Advocacy is also a way to create a community with our students at school from year to year.
My Project
Every year, basic supplies are necessary for the classroom, even more so for my students who are more then likely on free or reduced lunch and need help with every possible supply. Some schools have parents who donate a large portion of basic classroom supplies every year. This has never happened in the six years I have worked at this school and every year I purchased most of the classroom supplies out of my own pocket. I am so grateful for this opportunity DonorChoose provides, where the basic supplies can be provided to for my students and I can go even further for my students and look at larger projects and other materials that can make the learning unique and fun. Starting the year with markers, colored pencils, pens, and other basic materials will be huge. Also, I plan on using the bendy pencils as rewards or to help students who need help focusing. I have a colored printer I have to allow students to print colored pictures for assignments and projects in class. The ink can be refilled with this order. The pen storage units are going to work great to create an organized space for the students to work. They can easily grab the markers or colored pencil then need and it would be easy for them to put the marker or pencil back. All of these supplies will be used throughout the year by all of my students and will help to make their school year fun and productive.
