I need to keep my teaching techniques and strategies fresh. I am requesting funding for a three day institute given by MindSpark Learning, reimbursement for lodging, gas, and meals.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Since beginning my teaching career, I have worked with countless students who are more than a grade level behind with their reading. This stems from a variety of reasons. The majority of my students come from non-English speaking homes that are socioeconomically disadvantaged. I know that these students are craving great instruction to close these gaps. I have made it my mission to introduce students to not only great novels throughout the year, but also a storybook a day from great authors, and interesting nonfiction text. We have deep discussions about connections, interesting facts, and what we like and dislike about what we read. I feel the change from a dread to a craving of literature in my room throughout the year.
My Project
I would love to be able to attend a MindSpark Learning Institute in Austin, Texas for equity-centered design thinking and innovative mindset. I am requesting funding to cover the cost of the institute itself, and partial reimbursement for lodging, food, and gas to get there from my home in El Paso, Texas.
I strive to be the lifelong learner that I encourage my students to be.
I know that by building my knowledge of educating little minds (and souls) I can make a deeper impact on a daily basis. I want nothing more than to continue to develop my passion.
This training will help me not only further develop the equity among students that they deserve, but also enhance the social and emotional learning that occurs in my classroom. I have not yet tired of having the opportunity to change lives every day, and look forward to learning new skills to further enhance this oh-so-special career and the little lives that I get to touch daily.
