School Home Away From Home

My students need snacks and a warm drink to help them find my classroom a safe space. They also need school supplies to stay organized in my classrooms.

My Students

Students in the Special Education program needs extra resources to gain easier access to learning and organizational skills. These students need support in Biology, Mathematics (Algebra), English, and Health and Safety. Some of these students come to school without pencils or feeling like they have a safe space. I would like to turn my classroom into a safe space for these students at our large high school campus. There are many students who come to hang out during lunch and between periods.

My Project

A lot of students in my classes need school supplies to be successful. I would like to create binders for each student to help them stay organized with their notes and classwork. The binder tabs would help the students create different sections and determine which worksheets or activities need to go in the different sections. The sheet protectors would help students keep important paperwork clean and ready to turn in.

Many students often come to class without the tools that are expected of them.

By having these tools readily available, it would increase their productivity and help them be prepared to engage with the academic material.

I would also like to create a safe space for students who come in at lunch or during breaks when they are having a hard time at school. It would be nice to be able to offer students who haven't eaten a snack or warm drink that can help keep them energized for the rest of the school day. I think being able to offer them these things will also help them find a safe space on campus. The Mac'n'Cheese cups are small, easy to store, quick to prepare, and filling which means that students who haven't eaten can get a boost of much needed energy. The snacks I've chosen also have similar effects - they are small, easy to store, and filling. The Keurig coffee maker will make it easier for us to provide students with warm beverages that can comfort them when they are feeling out of sorts.

With these snacks and students, the classroom can get dirty very quickly which is why the sanitizing wipes are so important. We want to keep the classroom clean and safe for all students.
