Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are curious and bubbly seventh and eighth-graders. We are a Title I school, so it is hard for the parents to support us financially and academically. Students need to be educated in environmental science in my class so that they can be responsible citizens later.

My students are curious, warm, and full of life.

They can perform at the same level as any other students if they are encouraged and exposed to opportunities like kids in affluent schools. They are faced with many challenges inside and outside the classroom. Despite the many challenges they have to encounter, I am trying my best to keep things simple and meaningful.

Many of my students are raised by single parents or grandparents. More than 80% receive free or reduced-price lunches because of their socioeconomic status. Some were not exposed to typical childhood experiences, but as soon as they enter my classroom, I focus on their potential growth. I do not have any control over their home lives, but I certainly can make a positive impact on them while they are with me in the classroom. I encourage them to be lifelong learners to achieve their goals.

My Project

We would love to have supplies for our existing school garden.

A greenhouse will show them the environmental effect and how it operates to grow the plants during extreme weather.

We will grow tomatoes, pepper in our school garden and promote healthy eating in school and our Culinary Arts class.

The kink-proof hose will help us to water our fruit trees in the garden.

Aerogarden will be a great addition to my science class.

Kids in our community come from landscaping backgrounds and enjoy gardening.

I love gardening and these resources will help me to promote healthy eating and stay relaxed.
