Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Be the change you want to see in the world," Mahatma Gandhi said, and my students are showing this to school and community by creating a beautiful edible garden in a busy city.
I have amazing students at my school that help out with the garden.
They enjoy planting and working on the garden. Our school is in a big city and most of the students come from poor homes. Not all of them have access to fresh healthy food. The garden helps show them how they can grow their own food.
My Project
This past school year I started this edible garden at my school. It is small right now. We have seven raised vegetable beds to date. We also have forty mosaic stepping stones students designed placed in between the beds. The fence, stone, and netting I have requested will allow us to expand the garden as the interest from the students has grows.
Most of my students don't understand where tomatoes, cilantro, or onions come from.
This project allows students to make this connection. It also gives them a sense of pride creating a beautiful garden space on school grounds.
