Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live around South Central Los Angeles where every day can be a challenge coming to and from school. Regardless of the neighborhood problems, all the students come to school ready to learn something new and to express themselves to the class.
Our school is a Title I school, where many of our students are English Learners and all qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
100% of the students in my classroom are English Learners, and 75% are Long-Term English Learners (LTELs) who want to reclassify this year before going into middle school.
The majority of my students either lack computers at home or the internet and doing research or finding programs to help with learning at home can be difficult. Regardless of the hardships, my students don't give up.
My Project
It has been less than a month since we started school, and I have already seen many excited faces starting 5th grade. Unfortunately, many of the families cannot afford some of the school essentials.
Many of the students have not been able to obtain many of the BASIC school essentials.
Having these essential will help the students focus on the task at hand and less trying to find a place to write and something to write with.
The laminating machine will allow me to laminate students' work and charts to make them sturdy and last longer.
Without these basic school essentials, my students will have difficulty keeping up with the rest of the 5th graders.
