Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
After the last two years, our students have displayed difficulties in developing close, meaningful relationships with their peers. Many of the interactions that we see our students have take place through the screens on their phones. This has unfortunately led to a lack in a genuine understanding of who their peers are.
In order to try and help spark meaningful peer to peer relationships, the idea of a school based and student centered podcast has come to light.
The hope is that by providing a forum for students to have their voice heard and learn about their peers, a positive impact will be felt and seen throughout our school community.
The rationale behind creating a podcast in order to achieve this goal is simple. It is no secret that technology has consumed our students lives. Good, bad, or indifferent, the reality is that our students spend and extraordinary amount of time glued to their phones. A podcast would allow us to reach our students through the very device that they spend so much time on. If some of the time they spend on the phone was used to learn about their peers, from their peers point of view, it would be a successful endeavor.
