This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The elementary school students at my school are unlike students anywhere else in the world. They are uniquely wonderful in all aspects of their being. They attend a Title I school in a rural area of North Carolina.
In the past year, our school has implemented an intervention block, club day, and AVID, broadening our student experiences and creating new and exciting learning opportunities.
Our goals this year are especially targeted on closing the achievement gap through access to materials and resources.
My Project
The Scholastic Reading Summit will help me grow as a librarian to incorporate reading strategies and new trends in library science into my school. The summit will allow me to receive professional development from top children's book educators, writers, an experts and will give me insight into building a library collection that is engaging and relevant for my students. This will benefit students and teachers at my school through the incorporation of motivational reading practices and events to boost reading comprehension and literacy. This will help me grow professionally by giving me access to a professional learning community of my peers.
