As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
The students in my room are in need of leveled books in our classroom.
Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and all receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. I am hopeful to provide them with technology that they may not get exposed to at home.
My Project
Our school currently does not have a librarian and the materials in my cart will benefit my students greatly. My students need to have access to nonfiction texts daily.
The books will introduce emergent readers to exciting, age-appropriate nonfiction.
The leveled text, vocabulary skill-builders and comprehension activities help children develop core skills they will need to be successful readers. Engaging themes such as, animals, community helpers and American symbols. The students will be able to enhance their reading comprehension skills daily by using the books. They will also learn topics in science and social studies based on the topics of the books. They enjoy reading nonfiction books that are on their grade level.
