My Students

First Grade is an exciting year in students literacy development. It is a time when reading starts to "click" and they are beginning to develop a love for reading. I KNOW that I play a big role in building that love for reading even if it's early on.

I teach at an urban school in St.

Paul where 91% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Many of my students don't have access to a variety of reading materials (especially non-fiction) and for this reason I want to provide them with a weekly Scholastic Newsletter.

My Project

Scholastic News encompasses things that many of my students would otherwise never get to experience. They can read this at school and they can take them home each week! For under $6/student, you can help my students experience the world! Additionally, my classroom does not have a pencil sharpener (not even an old crank one!!). Please help support this need in our classroom.

I want to provide my students with what they deserve.

They deserve to have interesting texts to read at home and at school. They also deserve a sharpened pencil each day! Thank you for your consideration!
