My Students

I teach 2nd grade at a Title 1 school in Michigan where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. My classroom has become a second home and a safe place for them. My students love to read and need more non-fiction texts to increase their reading engagement.

My students face many hardships that many of us can't even imagine.

I am on a mission to pass on my love of learning to my students. My classroom is a safe haven for them. I want to provide as many fun and engaging learning opportunities for them as well as having a comforting environment.

My Project

My students need a class subscription to Scholastic News. Scholastic News is a great resource for students because it connects current events to the second grade curriculum. Many of my students are not exposed to current events and experiences they haven't been fortunate enough to experience.

Scholastic News will help enhance the students' learning and reading ability.

Many of my students love to read non-fiction text and this magazine is packed full of great resources for them to read. They will be able to take this magazine home and share them with their friends and family.

In addition to Scholastic News, I am asking for Science Spin magazine. My students are fascinated with science and I would love to expose them to more. Along with the great articles, there are also experiments we can do in class.
