I teach many exciting third, fourth, and fifth graders who want to learn, be challenged and get active every chance they get! They are excited and inspired by the world around them, so much so, that they inspire me daily.
My students are passionate critical thinkers.
Each day, they strive to learn more, do more, and be more. They know the more they learn the more they grow! Their futures are bright. Combined with their desire to learn and incredible support, they are destined for success.
My Project
I would love to have Scholastic News Magazines for my gifted classes. I want my students to know that there is a world outside of their little community. I will be using the magazines weekly to encourage the students to discuss and debate the articles. I want them also to enjoy reading about the many interesting places, events, and people in their world. These magazines will also help with reading fluency and comprehension skills which we are always trying to improve! The Common Core standards require students to access and utilize non-fiction text.
Not only will the students receive a copy of the magazines, but they will be provided with access to an interactive website from Scholastic that provides games, additional information, and lively videos.
While this resource will enhance classroom instruction, students will be able to take the magazine home and read the articles with their parents. Additionally, students and parents can access the online features and play games, watch videos, and take interactive quizzes! What an incredible way to engage parents and support quality instruction.
