My Students
I am so lucky to teach in a small rural community. Not only do I get to know my 2nd graders throughout the year, I also grow close to their families. The most important aspect of teaching is relationships, relationships, relationships. My kids come from all different backgrounds. In our classroom we are a community.
"We are all learners, we are all teachers." -George Couros.
We take risks. We are not afraid to fail. We learn from each other. We support each other. My role is to empower students and to continually ask, "What is best for this learner?"
My Project
Teaching our standards in a fun and hands-on way can sometimes be a struggle. I am always looking for resources that will seamlessly integrate into our curriculum.
In my 2nd grade classroom, we don't teach Social Studies and Science from a textbook.
Standards are taught using engaging activities, high-quality nonfiction books, and project-based outcomes. A Scholastic News subscription would be a great attention grabber when introducing our units.
I am especially excited to use their digital editions, videos, skills worksheets, and interactive games to teach about resources, goods and services, wants and needs, and knowledge of currency. Using current events is the perfect way to learn about financial literacy!
