Help me give my students subscriptions to Scholastic News and Science Spin to enhance reading comprehension through a variety of texts while keeping up with current events.

My students are enthusiastic learners who come to school ready to take in the day's educational adventures. Most of my students come from low income families, so the majority of the items (ranging from basic school supplies to books to facial tissues and more) are supplied by me.
Not only is our school inner-city, it is a home; a home where we foster literacy and learning while having fun.
Instruction is rigorous and the students are held accountable for their learning. Teachers and students build solid and rewarding relationships built on respect and the understanding that we are a team and our one focus is the students.
My class consists of eighteen second graders who come to school ready to learn, but not always prepared. I often supply them with basic school supply needs. Most of the books they have access to, come from my personal classroom library.
My students will use Scholastic News to practice and fine tune reading skills such as using text features, finding the main idea and supporting details, and making inferences.
Scholastic News provides age-appropriate current events, and the articles align with the academic standards.
There is a digital component Scholastic News provides to teachers to use for whole group lessons, which will engage students in the learning process.
I am excited to incorporate more non-fiction into my instruction. I find that my students tend to read many more fiction books than non-fiction books. I am confident that Scholastic News is the tool I need to show them how to digest and comprehend non-fiction books that are sometimes full of difficult vocabulary words and text features.
