My students need Scholastic News Magazines and Science Spin Magazines. The flexible seating of a Wobble Chair would benefit any of my students who need to move around while trying to concentrate on a task.

My Students

My students are the reason I arrive at work two hours early and leave an hour or two late each day. They're the reason I spend my weekends tweaking lesson plans and creating resources to be used in our classroom. They inspire me to work my hardest and to always be thinking about ways to improve. My students come from diverse backgrounds and families. Some have everything. Some have very little. Some come to school wearing the newest, trendiest clothes. Some do not. Some leave school each day and translate schoolwork and flyers for their parents because English is not the primary language spoken at home. Some have gone on fabulous vacations out of state. Some have never even gone to the beach, which is only a short drive from our school. Some have experienced more challenges than any young child ever should. But when they step foot into my classroom, they are all the same. They are second graders who love to learn and are eager to learn as much as possible. Any differences between them are embraced. Any similarities are cherished. Teamwork makes the dream work!

My Project

A Wobble Chair would allow me to offer a flexible seating arrangement to any student who struggles with concentration while sitting still at his/her desk. Many students lean back in their chairs or fidget during lessons. Having a Wobble Chair in my classroom would allow a student to move, in a gentle and safe way, while working on a task at the very same time. No more leaning back in a chair or fidgeting as a means of releasing energy!

The Scholastic News magazines will provide engaging, on-level, nonfiction texts that explore science and social studies topics perfect for second grade learners!

There's also an online component that will provide my class with digital editions, videos, and skills sheets! The combination of colorful magazines and digital content will help bring an exciting and engaging supplement to our current science and social studies curricula, the latter of which is quite outdated. Science Spin is a supplementary magazine that will bring additional real-world science, plus the latest science news, into my classroom! Coupled with hands-on science activities that will occur throughout the school year, these magazines will be a great read for my budding scientists!
